“They Want How Much?!?” Why is Open Access So Expensive?

Open Access publications have larger audiences and higher numbers of citations than traditional scholarship.

Funders and employers have a spectrum of access policies and requirements to comply with.

Looming just beyond the gates of promotion and tenure is the publisher, awaiting you with a hefty bill.

Join us at Firestone Library for a dive into the cost and value proposition of publishing. We’ll look at real costs of publication, publisher revenues, and library expenditures. We’ll also review the options you have beyond paying the processing charge, and what you can do as a scholar to help keep publishing equitable and sustainable.

This session is open to all, and will be especially helpful for faculty, graduate students, and early career researchers who are grappling with the costs of Open Access
