Data Wrangling Tools: OpenRefine and Linking Data

Participants familiar with OpenRefine (though not a requirement for attendance) will learn about linked open data and how to use the Wikidata reconciliation service. The Wikidata API is a powerful addition to OpenRefine that allows users to automatically capture data from the Wikimedia commons. We will explore how to add spatial, temporal, and other data types to an existing dataset—a useful skill in preparing your research for mapping, timelines, and other visualizations. Please bring your own laptop and download the application here before attending.
