Sustainability Tour of Commons, Briger Hall, & SEAS

How do you place high-performance laboratories, public gathering spaces, university services, and large-scale receiving operations on a steep, active campus site? Walk the complex with us and explore the planning, structure, logistics, and design decisions that make ES&SEAS a sustainable building complex.

Some specific feature we will explore:

  • the hybrid structural strategy: mass timber in offices and shared spaces, and steel and concrete where laboratories require tighter vibration control, resulting in a lower embodied carbon building
  • daylighting strategies for energy efficiency and human well-being
  • nature based designs to protect birds, support biodiversity, manage storm water

Registration is required. There are 14 seats available.

This tour will begin in the Commons Library Curiosity Studio, and will cover the Commons, Briger Hall, and SEAS. The Commons Library sits between Briger Hall and the new Bioengineering Building. Enter on the first floor on Ivy Lane across from the football stadium or through Briger Hall’s first floor. You can also enter on the second floor from Roper Lane. Find us on the campus map.

The Curiosity Studio is an open presentation space inside the Commons Library’s second floor.
